There has always been a great debate about how to teach infants with respect to classes being based on Age or Ability.
At Dash over the last two years we have created a program that has a happy mix between the two and we have seen the confidence and ability of our young swimmers soar. Our first two classes are ability based and as they master the skills we move children into ability based classes to keep extending their skills.
Parents and caregivers are in the water with their swimmers where the focus is on water awareness and confidence, submerging and breath control and basic floating and kicking skills. There is a major focus on water safety techniques so that if your infant finds themselves in a situtation they have the natural instinct of how to save themselves/wait for help to come to them. This early introduction to swim lessons will develop a natural confidence in water and the aim is to have infants progress through the levels and skip the entry level of pre school by the time they turn 3.
Our pool is a specialised learning facility with pool temperature sitting at 30 degrees to provide a comfortable learning experience for all.
This class is for infants aged 4months to 18months. Parents or Caregiver over the age of 16 required to be in the water. We have a maximum of 10 per class.
The focus of this class is water confidence, submersion, independance in the water, floating with aids, intro to rolling from front to back, swim and reach for wall, reach and climb up.
This class is for toddlers aged 18months – 3years
The focus of this class is - water confidence, understanding cues, submersion, assisted floating and kicking, fall in and roll to back, independent movement in the water, fall in roll to back and swim back to wall (some assistance).
This level is our first ability based level for those infants aged 18months-3 years that have completed the requirements of the Tiny Tots class.
In this class we focus on moving from assisted floating to floating without assistance, intro to unassisted kicking, fall in swim roll swim (swim sequence), rolling front to back, clothed swim.
Super Tots Advanced is For the advanced toddler who needs to be extended until they reach preschool age.
In this level we work on - Unassisted floating, unassisted kicking, rolling front to back, intro to arm circles, swim sequence, clothed swim.
Lessons have a balance of group activities and individual focus with the parent/caregiver as the facilitator.
Songs and structured activities stimulate learning and make the lessons relevant.
